Founded in 1991, Exisle Publishing is a mainstream publishing house that has been a defining voice in the book world for close to three decades. Founded in New Zealand by British publisher and former David & Charles executive Gareth St John Thomas, Exisle made a name for itself publishing gripping photographic books, biographies (including that of Prime Minister Helen Clark) and self-help guides by qualified experts.

Exisle soon expanded to Australia and now has a strong presence throughout the English-speaking world with staff in the United States (Boston), the United Kingdom (Edinburgh and London), Australia and New Zealand. Our books have been translated into over 35 languages, and you can regularly find our booths at book fairs in Frankfurt, Istanbul, Beijing, Melbourne, London and New York.

Our pioneering children’s picture-book imprint, EK Books, has received local and international acclaim, including twice winning the SCBWI Crystal Kite Award for Book of the Year in Oceania and being nominated for the Bologna Bookfair Children’s Publisher of the Year (Oceania).

With Exisle Academy, our goal is to train the next generation of authors, enabling them to navigate the confusing and challenging world of writing and publishing, and share their message with the world.
